About Your Instructor
Krista Holland, a multifaceted teacher, frame drummer, and independent researcher, is the founder of the Sacred Drumming Academy, where she shares her in-depth training and studies of the frame drum and leads sacred drumming circles and ceremonies. She has devoted more than 25 years of research and practice of the frame drum and its incredible cross-cultural history, and has over 15 years of experience teaching the frame drum to others.
Krista learned the art of frame drumming along with ritual, myth, and ancient feminine drum history while apprenticing for 14 years under the tutelage of the late Layne Redmond, author of When the Drummers Were Women.
Primarily focusing her frame drumming on its healing aspects rather than on drum performance, Krista has drummed privately for cancer patients in hospice, pregnant mothers at their blessing ways, grieving parents, modern temple dancers, trance journeys, children at bedtime, elderhood rites of passage, and a variety of other life ceremonies and rituals.

A: Yes! The Sacred Drumming Academy will teach you everything you need to know to start your frame drumming journey. All you need to do is apply the teachings by playing along while you watch the videos and practice the material independently. If a person plays and practices the material consistently this course will provide a wonderful foundation in learning to play the frame drum.
Q: Is this course live or pre-recorded?
A: The Sacred Drumming Foundations Course is a combination of live and pre-recorded teachings. Over 75 easy-to-follow pre-recorded videos take you on a journey into the art and practice of frame drumming. Additionally, you will be invited to three live Master Classes with Krista held via Zoom video conferencing.
For those who can't make the live sessions - recordings of all sessions will be posted on the private Academy website within 48 hours of the live classes
How long do I have to access the course materials?

What supplies do I need for the course?
All you need is a computer, mobile device, or telephone and a frame drum!
The Sacred Drumming Academy created by Krista Holland started for me in November 2020, which was, by all means, a dreadful year but it also gave me the opportunity to finally begin studying frame drums, since everyone was home and a lot of amazing online courses started popping up in my Facebook feed. Before that, living in Italy, I couldn't find any in-person training from teachers of Layne Redmond's lineage or at least focusing not only on the technical aspects of the drum but also on its uses as a sacred tool.
The most important thing I learned from Krista, apart from techniques and rhythms, was to feel my personal connection with the drum, to feel it not like an external tool in my hands, something "other" than my body, but more as an extension of it, a gateway to express my inner world, just like singing and dancing feel for me. She encouraged us all to fall in love with the drum, setting space and time to practice, some sort of ritual of daily connecting with the drum.
Another thing I highly valued in the Sacred Drumming Academy was the fact that Krista taught us the history of female frame drumming throughout the millennia, making us feel connected to this ancient lineage of drummers.
